Tall ship Eagle docks in NY to mark U.S. Coast Guard‘s Birthday | Brooklyn Daily Eagle

The only tall ship on active service in the U.S. military has docked in New York City to help the Coast Guard celebrate its birthday.

The 295-foot-long Eagle sailed into New York Harbor and docked in Manhattan on Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard’s 226th birthday.

I’ve recently returned from a trip to Volvo Penta’s Krossholmen Test Center, near Gothenberg, Sweden, where I ran their new engines and put their latest marine systems technology to the test. A new joystick system, a new range of engines, a battery management system and what’s said to be the first electronic key fob to remotely energize a boat’s driveline, were all introduced.

Barbara Bedell, a certified United States Coast Guard Auxiliary VSC Vessel Examiner, lives in the house right beside my dock. Each year, Barbara simply strolls down in some spare moment, clipboard in hand, and takes me through the drill.

As I ran down the bay with my family last evening, the temperature dropped noticeably as we approached the inlet. The tide was flooding, and cool tendrils of ocean water flowed into the bay dropping the local air temperature. When we left our back bay creek, we were sweating; by the time we got fully out into the ocean–just two miles away–we were reaching for sweatshirts.

GST rules prevent superyacht charters, costing Gold Coast big money

THE Gold Coast and nation are missing out on up to $100,000 a week per vessel from visiting foreign superyachts because stiff GST rules block them running local charters.

Foreign superyachts avoid offering charters in Australia waters because they must pay a hefty 10 per cent GST on the value of the vessel. For a vessel worth $50 million, that’s a $5 million GST bill.

Superyacht Fusionsinks off Ibiza | business News on SuperyachtNews.com

A motoryacht, reportedly the 37m Fusion, was captured on camera taking on water near Ibiza yesterday, the 19 July. Local reports suggest that eight guests were on board during the time of the incident.

No injuries have been reported and the local emergency services allegedly arrived on the scene before the yacht was submerged further.
